Mike Wilkinson is a professional event planner with years of experience planning in the Washington, DC area. Starting his career in the nonprofit sector, Mike established connections within the local event industry and is knowledgeable with a variety of venue and vendor resources.

For two years, Mike directed the formal event fundraisers for Whitman-Walker Clinic, a large community-based HIV and GLBT health care center. During that time, Mike was always aware of the particular needs of the gay and lesbian attendees for whom he was planning fundraisers. From intimate gatherings to large audiences, Mike has successfully coordinated events a wide variety of events like cocktail receptions, gala dinners, sporting events, and even street festivals.

When the District of Columbia began considering legalizing same-sex marriage, Mike decided to shift his focus to wedding planning with a particular focus on gay and lesbian weddings. With a desire to help same-sex couples officially unite in our nation's capital, Mike is dedicated to ensuring his clients have an unforgettable experience.

Founded in early 2003 by Jenna Mack and Stephanie Campbell, Event Emissary has quickly become a rising star among Washington, D.C. event management companies. Just months after the company opened for business, Event Emissary was awarded a multi-year contract to manage the prestigious Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium on Constitution Avenue by the General Services Administration (GSA) In 2009, the company was awarded the contract to manage the National Aquarium in Washington, DC. Event Emissary has been consistently recognized by the Washington Business Journal as one of DC’s Top Meeting and Event Planning companies. In 2007, our staff began to combine their personal interest in responsible ecology with their expertise in event planning. Leading the event field in Washington, DC, Event Emissary has taken extensive steps to reduce our company’s carbon footprint and begun educating our clients on the environmentally-friendly meeting and event options available to them.  In December 2009, thrilled by the passage of Washington, DC’s same-sex marriage bill, Event Emissary has expanded our company services to include wedding coordination.
